Acting Out, Visual Responses to a Changing World is sponsored by the Women’s Caucus for Art Carolinas. The WCACarolinas is a regional chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA) and shares the mission of the national organization to “create community through art, education, and social activism. WCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts; providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development; expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women; supporting local, national, and global art activism; and advocating for equity in the arts for all.” The Women’s Caucus for Art Carolinas focuses its efforts on artists living in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Founded in October 2020, the WCACarolinas is one of the newest chapters of the WCA. Acting Out, Visual Responses to a Changing World is the second exhibition sponsored by the WCACarolinas and the first post-pandemic. Covid and other recent events shaped the theme of Acting Out. The past few years have forced us to change—pivot—adapt—shift—evolve—accept—fight. Circumstances out of our control have challenged our normal experience and altered the world. The WCACarolinas asked artists to create and submit work that captured their reactions and personal responses to our ever-changing world.

Acting Out, Visual Responses to a Changing World features 31 pieces of artwork by 20 artists from 10 states. The work explores a variety of topics, including the pandemic, recent supreme court decisions, gun violence, and the current political situation. The exhibition opens at the Wilma W. Daniels Gallery on Monday, September 12th, and will run through Friday, November 4th. Fourth Friday Gallery receptions will be held on Friday, September 23rd, and Friday, October 28th.
