SUMMARY:Two Local Artists
DESCRIPTION:From January 30th to April 27th\, 2025\, the Bellamy Mansion Museum will host the “Two Local Artists” exhibition of original artwork by BJ Grimmer & Ricardo Perez.\nView the show\, free\, during regular museum hours: Mondays-Sundays: 10 am-4 pm. There will be an Artists’ Reception Friday\, February 28th from 6-8 pm. To gain access to the exhibition\, please stop by the Carriage House Visitor Center upon arrival for free admission.\nAbout the Artists:\nBJ Grimmer:\nBJ Grimmer is a long-time artist and former art educator. She\nhas been painting and drawing all her life and received her bachelor’s degree in art education from Iowa State University.\nSince moving to Wilmington in 2019\, BJ has been represented at the Citrine Gallery and has had multiple solo shows including at the Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens and at the Bellamy Mansion Museum previously.\nRicardo Perez:\nRicardo spent 42 years as a National Park Service Ranger where his love of storytelling\, nature\, and historic foodways eventually led him to the world of art and North Carolina in his retirement. He serves as the president of the Art League of Leland and has been a featured artist in Cameron Art Museum’s Art of the State as well as exhibiting his landscapes\, portraits\, and still life originals in several solo shows.\nMany of his works feature common food items\, and he tells stories through those images of the edible. To Ricardo\, a croissant is not just a croissant but a teaching tool for history. “People think the croissant is a French pastry. I think the French elevated it to the form we know now\, but the croissant originated in Austria\, as a way of celebrating the Austrian army’s victory over the Turks in 1683. Food origins are a wonderful way to explore history.”\nFor more information\, please contact Leslie at lmorton@bellamymansion.org or by calling (910)-251-3700 x305.\nhttps://www.bellamymansion.org/exhibits.html

SUMMARY:Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Grab your beads and a slice of king cake as we celebrate Mardis Gras with NEA Jazz Master and Grammy Award-winning trombonist\, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra! Join us for a night of New Orleans jazz—this show will surely get hands clapping and toes tapping! \nDelfeayo Marsalis\, an acclaimed trombonist\, composer\, and producer\, has dedicated his prolific career to music\, theatre\, and education. A member of the renowned Marsalis family\, he has toured internationally with jazz legends like Ray Charles and Art Blakey while also leading his own groups. Starting his production career at seventeen\, he has produced over 120 recordings\, earning one Grammy and several nominations. Marsalis holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Music Performance and Production from Berklee College of Music\, a Master’s in Jazz Performance from the University of Louisville\, and a Doctorate from the New England College. \nThe Uptown Jazz Orchestra (UJO)\, founded in 2007 by NEA Jazz Master and Grammy-winning trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis\, promotes the rich cultural legacy of American jazz through entertaining and educational performances. Combining the dance-first sensibility of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band with influences from Count Basie\, Duke Ellington\, and John Coltrane\, UJO keeps important jazz traditions alive\, such as riff-playing and New Orleans polyphony. The orchestra has released three critically acclaimed CDs and tours internationally.

SUMMARY:RATS! screening at Jengo's Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Summer just got a lot shorter for 19 year old Raphael Tinski. It’s 2007 and the peak of emo-culture is in full swing. Raphael just got arrested by a psychotic cop. Raphael just fell in love with a girl at community service. Raphael might get blown up by nukes. \nRATS! is coming back to Wilmington. After the premiere at Cucalorus Film Festival in 2023\, this film has been on the 2024 festival circuit. We’re happy to be one of the cinemas\, screening it on their theatrical release date!
