SUMMARY:Two Local Artists
DESCRIPTION:From January 30th to April 27th\, 2025\, the Bellamy Mansion Museum will host the “Two Local Artists” exhibition of original artwork by BJ Grimmer & Ricardo Perez.\nView the show\, free\, during regular museum hours: Mondays-Sundays: 10 am-4 pm. There will be an Artists’ Reception Friday\, February 28th from 6-8 pm. To gain access to the exhibition\, please stop by the Carriage House Visitor Center upon arrival for free admission.\nAbout the Artists:\nBJ Grimmer:\nBJ Grimmer is a long-time artist and former art educator. She\nhas been painting and drawing all her life and received her bachelor’s degree in art education from Iowa State University.\nSince moving to Wilmington in 2019\, BJ has been represented at the Citrine Gallery and has had multiple solo shows including at the Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens and at the Bellamy Mansion Museum previously.\nRicardo Perez:\nRicardo spent 42 years as a National Park Service Ranger where his love of storytelling\, nature\, and historic foodways eventually led him to the world of art and North Carolina in his retirement. He serves as the president of the Art League of Leland and has been a featured artist in Cameron Art Museum’s Art of the State as well as exhibiting his landscapes\, portraits\, and still life originals in several solo shows.\nMany of his works feature common food items\, and he tells stories through those images of the edible. To Ricardo\, a croissant is not just a croissant but a teaching tool for history. “People think the croissant is a French pastry. I think the French elevated it to the form we know now\, but the croissant originated in Austria\, as a way of celebrating the Austrian army’s victory over the Turks in 1683. Food origins are a wonderful way to explore history.”\nFor more information\, please contact Leslie at lmorton@bellamymansion.org or by calling (910)-251-3700 x305.\nhttps://www.bellamymansion.org/exhibits.html

SUMMARY:Blithe Spirit - UNCW Dept of Theatre
DESCRIPTION:BLITHE SPIRIT\nBy Noel Coward\nDirected by Ed Wagenseller\n“I will ever be grateful for the almost psychic gift that enabled me to write Blithe Spirit in five days during one of the darkest years of the war.” – Noel Coward. \nWritten in 1941\, Blithe Spirit remained the longest-running comedy in British Theatre for three decades. Blithe Spirit is a tug-of-love comedy with a difference: one of the lovers is a ghost.\nNovelist Charles\, hoping to gather material for his next book\, asks Madame Arcati (one of the great characters in all of theatre) to conduct a séance in his house. It works too well: his first wife returns from the other side\, with predictably disastrous results for his second marriage. \nApril 3-6 and 10-13\, 2025\nThursdays\, Fridays\, & Saturdays at 7:30 pm\nSundays at 2:00 pm

Additionally\, DREAMS has the following initiatives: Public Art\, Visiting Artists\, Teen Council\, Family Engagement\, Dance Theatre of DREAMS (DTD)\, The Garage at DREAMS\, and The Gallery at DREAMS. \nAbout NCMA AIM: \nThe Artist Innovation Mentorship program is the signature outreach program of the NCMA\, pairing teaching artists with middle school–aged youth in after-school programs throughout North Carolina. During its first year\, NCMA AIM provided eight artist residencies that served a total of seven counties. By partnering with community leaders and local artists within those counties\, the program served over 100 students and impacted over 5\,000 community members. The NCMA continues to work in rural communities through partnerships with the North Carolina Arts Council\, Hometown Strong\, and local county partners to increase outreach efforts as it enters the second year of a multiyear commitment to the AIM program. \nPilot funding was provided by the Anonymous Trust and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources\, with additional generous support from First Citizens Bank\, William R. Kenan\, Jr. Charitable Trust\, SECU Foundation\, and Oak Foundation.
