In addition\, we feature continuously rotating art featuring 30+ of Art in Bloom Gallery’s Artists! \nAbout the Artists\nFritzi Huber\, a current artist at ACME Art Studios\, has been making handmade paper\, and teaching workshops across the US for more than 45 Years. Her work has been exhibited and collected nationally\, as well as internationally. \nGuest artist\, Leslie Marsh\, comes from a long line of women who draw with needle and thread. She learned traditional handwork from her grandmother as a child and has been building on those conventional roots ever since. Leslie’s work is held in private collections across the Americas\, Europe and Australia. She teaches workshops in her Hampstead home studio and at various sites across the US. \nRebecca Yeomans has lived her entire life centered around making. SUMMARY:Silver Pride Cinema Festival: Shorts Block
DESCRIPTION:A compelling collection of LGBTQ shorts\, featuring: \nDérive- Guided by posthumous instructions to release her ex-wife’s ashes\, a reclusive book publisher embarks on a Surrealist odyssey (a dérive) across New York City\, experiencing a series of spontaneous connections along the way that inspire her to engage the world anew. \nOrder for Ben- Ben\, a trans man with a full and happy life\, agrees to meet his father for coffee after seven years of estrangement. Over the course of a year\, they attempt to find a way forward together as father and son. \nReclamation- Following a young trans man who embarks on a journey to tattoo over his top surgery scars\, this short documentary explores the power of community\, queer resilience\, and body adornment as gender-affirming care. \nSafety State- As rights are being rolled back and travel bans are going into effect\, Shay and Quincy decide to leave their home in Ohio and travel East to a safety state where it is safe and legal to be queer. They meet up with another couple\, Jacob and Michael\, so together they can pose as straight married couples. Quincy takes an instant dislike to her new “husband”\, Jacob\, as she resents depending on the men and pretending to be straight. As they face different threats on their journey\, they form an unlikely friendship. \nStud Country- Stud Country is the largest queer country western line dancing night in America\, continuing a little-known fifty-plus year tradition in Los Angeles. Despite its success and fiercely committed community\, due to gentrification\, the event is set to lose its venue. \nThe first Silver Pride Cinema Festival in Wilmington\, NC\, takes place on May 10\, 2025\, at Jengo’s Playhouse\, featuring four screenings\, including three feature films and a shorts block. Hosted by Silver Pride Circle of the Cape Fear\, the event aligns with the group’s mission to foster community and education for LGBTQ+ individuals over 50.
