Visitors can access the gallery from South College Road or Racine Drive\, and parking is available in front of the box office entrance to the building. \nFor more information visit https://linktr.ee/cabartgallery \nRachel Gloria Adams: Bloom for Yesterday \n“Bloom for Yesterday” is a collection of 10 quilts that highlight moments of tenderness within the Adams family. A combination of paint and quilting are patched together to capture these seemingly small moments that reflect the happiness\, pride and depth of motherhood. These moments are depicted in an illustrative style that distills the essence of its subjects. Subtle clues of the subject’s identity are exposed whether it be the strong emphasis on hair to allude to the blackness of the subjects or patterning within their clothing. In many ways each piece serves as self-portraiture as they are moments that have evoked an emotional response from the artist. \nAdams comes from a lineage of quilters and creatives. The practice of quilting allows Adams to work from home within the chaos of raising two daughters. Her girls\, Zoe and Norah\, are able to experience these moments and witness the process of translating life into art through their mother’s lens. Adams has created heirlooms that memorialize these specific points in time for the Adams and provide a tangible means of holding onto these moments. \nThe quilts themselves breakdown art institution norms by bringing together painting and craft. These objects give the viewer the sensation of warmth\, comfort and home. \n“Bloom For Yesterday” in essence is a love letter to Adams younger self. As products of divorce and troubled youths\, both Rachel and Ryan are dedicated to providing a life for their girls that is full of adventure\, creativity and love. In many ways they are able to experience things for the first time alongside their girls and in return their own inner child is able to blossom in ways they didn’t know they were capable of. On a broader scale the work serves as a reminder of Black joy. As a Black family living in Maine it is not often Black families are represented enjoying the Maine landscape. These moments provide a narrative of joy despite the hardships people of color endure. \nFunding for this exhibition at UNCW’s CAB Art Gallery is supported by UNCW’S Seahawks Advancing Interdisciplinary Learning (SAIL) and UNCW’s Department of Art and Art History’s Visiting Artist and Scholars Program. \nwww.rachelgloria.com  \nBIOGRAPHY \nRachel Gloria Adams is a multidisciplinary artist living in Portland\, ME. Adams has developed a vibrant\, graphic pattern-based visual language filled with references to the natural world that possess an heirloom quality. Her work takes form by way of quilting\, painting\, design and large-scale murals. \nAdams moved to Maine in 2005 to pursue her BFA from the Maine College of Art and Design. She has gone on to exhibit artwork at Center for Maine Contemporary Art Dowling Walsh Gallery and Portland Museum of Art. She has attended residencies at Speedwell\, Stephen Pace House and is an Indigo Arts Alliance David C Driscoll Fellow. Her artwork has been acquired by the Farnsworth Art Museum and several personal collections. In addition to her studio practice\, Adams has been commissioned to create murals for several institutions including the Children’s Museum of Portland\, University of Maine and the Farnsworth Art Museum. \nThis spring Adams alongside her husband and creative partner will install a mural at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI am interested in distilling personal memories and experiences into abstractions. I am constantly bouncing back and forth between sewing shapes and painting them. I find that I sew what I can’t paint and paint what I can’t sew. DESCRIPTION:Thalian Association Community Theatre (TACT) was founded in 1788 and is the oldest community theatre in the United States. Today TACT supports the quality of life & economic vitality of the Cape Fear Region with theatrical productions at Thalian Hall\, the 2nd Street Stage Historic USO Building\, and other community venues\, management of the Community Arts Center\, the arts festival Orange Street ArtsFest\, & Youth Theatre education/performance opportunities. During the 2023-2024 season 76\,546 people participated in Thalian Association productions\, attended special events\, or visited the Community Arts Center. 7006 youths & adults participated in youth theatre programs\, 50\,548 people attended an event or class at the Community Arts Center\, and 18\,992 people saw a show or special event. Grant and is directed by Christina Capra and edited by Jessie Robertson. \nAdditionally\, Art in Bloom Gallery is collaborating with Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts to present the paintings of Virginia Wright-Frierson! She travels extensively for inspiration for her painting and frequent visits with family across the United States. \nShe received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro\, with additional training at the Arts Students’ League in New York City and the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona\, Italy.  Virginia has lectured and taught many workshops and classes in painting and drawing and on illustrating children’s books. \nShe is widely known for her design and construction of the Minnie Evans Bottle Chapel and Sculpture Garden at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington\, a structure built with mortar and thousands of glass bottles\, inspired by the art of the visionary artist who worked in the garden for many years as a gatekeeper. \nIn 2000\, Virginia donated the sweeping mural which is permanently installed on the ceiling of the new atrium at Columbine High School after the tragic shootings there.  It is comprised of twenty painted panels which lift the eyes to a perspective of a Colorado forest of evergreens\, aspen and sunlight. \nShe has written and illustrated many children’s books\, including three John Burroughs Nature Book Award winners:  A Desert Scrapbook\, An Island Scrapbook\, and A North American Rain Forest Scrapbook. \nHer most recent work has included a one-person exhibition of 120 road trip oil paintings at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington\, a “pop up” exhibit of new oils and watercolors at 216 N. Front Street sponsored by Art in Bloom Gallery\, and a Cameron Art Museum exhibit\, “The Lived-In Body\, Celebrating Women Over 65.”

We are featuring the original work of artist\, John Sharkey\, and gallery artist\, Judy Hintz Cox. \nThe opening Fourth Friday Event is January 24\, from 6-9pm\, and the show runs through April 1\, 2025. This exhibit will also be open for the following Fourth Friday events on February 28 and March 28. \nView art Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm at MoMentum Companies at 103 S. Front Street in downtown Wilmington\, NC. \nAbout Judy Hintz Cox\nJudy started painting while living in Peru\, SA\, at the age of 26.  That was over 40 years ago. \nUpon returning to the USA\, Judy worked as an artists’ model\, where she met established artists\, who critiqued her art.  This was invaluable. She was taught how to “see” color\, composition and expression.  Her quest to learn more gave her the incentive to enroll at the University of Maryland for a second BA\, in Studio Arts. \nMs. Hintz Cox resigned from her Psychiatric RN career to pursue art full time in 1999.  For the past 20 years\, Judy has developed a unique style as an abstract minimalist. \nShe has exhibited extensively throughout the USA.

Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats\, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket\, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. It’s an evening dedicated to recognizing the creativity\, passion\, and hard work of young artists who have graced our stages during the 2023-2024 season. The event will spotlight standout performers and productions from schools and local theater companies\, providing a well-deserved “curtain call” for these remarkable youth. This event will take place at 6pm on January  12\, 2025 at the Wilson Center in partnership with the Arts Council of Wilmington.  The day of the event will also feature a special Broadway-led workshop from 12-3pm\, free for nominees\, and open to all others for a nominal fee. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to perform during the evening show\, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
