DESCRIPTION:Art in Bloom Gallery is celebrating this holiday season through its Annual Holiday Show\, featuring the powerful exhibits of mixed-media painters Clarence Mayo and Joan McLoughlin! Combining strong color with unconventional materials\, Clarence’s playful creations draw from instinct\, cultural echoes\, and his own personal roots. Meanwhile\, inspired by the renewal of nature and the energy of abstraction\, Joan works freely to express a love of life\, imagination\, joy and hope.  \nJoin us in the gallery on Sunday\, November 9th\, 2-5pm for our Holiday Show Reception! Enjoy special refreshments\, meet our artists\, and enjoy live music by guitarist Miles Moore! Delight in the discovery of our 30+ Gallery Artists’ new holiday creations\, and shop for one-of-a-kind gifts that are sure to bring smiles all year-round! \nClarence Mayo: “The Evolution of Identity: Defining Myself” \nMy work explores the interplay of strong colors\, textures\, and unconventional materials. I experiment with plaster\, drywall compound\, silicone acrylic chalk\, modeling paste\, wallpaper adhesive\, acrylic paint\, oil stick\, and cold wax and oil – applied with whatever tool feels right in the moment: brushes\, palette knives\, credit cards\, plastic bags\, fingers\, spoons\, and forks. \nThese studies often emerge as intuitive\, primitive\, childlike\, and abstract expressionist. They reflect a deep curiosity about form and surface\, while drawing inspiration from African art symbolism\, outsider art\, and my own family history. Each piece is a layered exploration of material and memory\, shaped as much by play and instinct as by cultural echoes and personal roots. \nJoan McLoughlin: “Awakening” \nMy paintings are celebrations of color\, movement and emotion.  \nInspired by trees\, flowers\, and the energy of abstract form\, I work in a loose\, lively style that embraces freedom and spontaneity. \nThrough variations of size and vibrant hue\, I wish to express growth\, rebirth\, and new beginnings. Each canvas is a reflection of the heart\, an exploration of optimism and possibility. \nI invite viewers to feel the same sense of love of life\, imagination\, joy and hope that can be found in my paintings.

Inspired by the enduring power of memories\, Angela and Karen combine their distinct talents to evoke the shared experiences which shape us. Write Angela & Karen: \n“Memories have the power to bind us. They tap into our shared experience evoking images and icons from the culture that has shaped us. Even inside a mind troubled by dementia\, old memories remain strong and help sustain us. This body of work is about making memories and keeping memories alive. We hope it evokes a place or a moment in time we can share to find healing ground in our fragmented world.” \nJoin us in Mayfaire on Sunday\, January 18th\, 2-5pm for our Artist Reception! Meet the artists\, enjoy special refreshments\, and listen to live music by Robert Beauchene. And celebrate Traudi Thornton’s (1940-2023) legacy through her Final Raku Sale! In alignment with her kiln restoration at Fat Cat Pottery\, we’ll release our final selection of Traudi’s ceramics from storage — 70+ masterpieces pit-fired with Traudi’s stunning glazes! \nAbout the Artists \nAlthough Angela Rowe grew up drawing and making objects\, she took other career paths\, working as an architectural historian\, in arts administration\, and managing high complexity global projects for IBM. Since 2013 Angela has focused on making art\, maintaining a studio practice at ACME Art Studios since 2014. \nAngela enjoys moving between the three freely based on which medium fits what she wants to say at a given time. Primarily a painter\, Angela also works representationally with ceramics and papier-mâché. Her collage / mixed media work is largely non-representational. Regardless of the medium\, all share her same intention of portraying things which are more than they superficially seem. Angela wants to suggest a story\, show a certain light\, a moment\, a mood\, a shared memory. She takes her own reference photos. These are images which said something to her. \nAfter more than twenty years of trial practice\, Karen Paden Crouch traded her law office for the welding shop and began learning direct metal sculpture. Despite a successful career advocating for clients\, nothing has ever been so frightening and exciting to Karen as sharing her own artwork. Whether it is good or bad\, understood or misunderstood\, trite or significant\, it has come from within her. \nKaren works in bronze\, copper and steel to create organic pieces for the house and garden. An avid gardener\, Karen grounds her work in the structure and movement of living things. Although Karen begins with a vision\, sometimes the very piece that sparked the idea will be the piece that gets cut out as the sculpture evolves. But Karen has always lived by instinct and\, with assembled pieces and bronzes alike\, the sculpture will tell her where to go if she is patient and listens.

DESCRIPTION:Nested Walking Meditation with Kelly Purcell\, RYT200\nThursday\, January 29 | 6:30 – 7:30 PM\nCAM Courtyard\nFREE with registration – $5 donation appreciated \nExperience a peaceful\, immersive walking meditation among the glowing nests of Meredith Connelly’s Nested: Where Light Gathers and Nature Holds installation in the CAM Courtyard. Guided by Wilmington Yoga instructor Kelly Purcell (RYT-200)\, this silent meditation includes a soothing sound bath of crystal singing bowls\, designed to reset the nervous system and deepen awareness of neutral and positive sensations. \nParticipants will move slowly through the illuminated courtyard\, reflecting and sharing on the interconnected nature of the artwork. As Kelly describes it\, “Soak in the sounds and vibrations of the crystal singing bowls to support a deeper meditative experience as you enjoy and walk through the exhibition.” \nWhile evenings can be chilly\, fire pits will add warmth to this special outdoor experience. \nREGISTER\nLearn more about Nested: Where Light Gathers and Nature Holds exhibition here. \nAbout the Instructor\nKelly Purcell is a certified yoga teacher and Community Resiliency Model® instructor who specializes in trauma-informed practices and sound healing.
