SUMMARY:Cinematique presents "Clueless"
DESCRIPTION:Pull out your best ’90s fashion and join us for Clueless (1995)\, screening twice at Jengo’s Playhouse as part of the Cinematique at Jengo’s series. \nScreenings:\n• 4:30 PM (Matinee)\n• 7:30 PM (Evening Screening + Post-Film Discussion) \nThis witty\, modern take on Jane Austen’s Emma follows stylish Beverly Hills teen Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) as she navigates friendship\, fashion\, matchmaking\, and first love after giving the new girl at school (Brittany Murphy) a total makeover. \nStick around after the 7:30 PM screening for a discussion with Todd Berliner\, Professor of Film Studies at UNCW\, exploring why Amy Heckerling’s Clueless remains one of the most influential teen comedies of all time—from popularizing iconic catchphrases like “As if!” to shaping ’90s fashion\, inspiring an off-Broadway musical and television series\, and helping define the MTV-inspired visual style that influenced a generation of filmmakers.

SUMMARY:"Cookie Queens" screening at Jengo's Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of girlhood and the complexities that come with it\, Cookie Queens is a coming-of-age story about the joys\, pressures\, and tensions woven into one of America’s most cherished rituals: Girl Scout Cookie season. \nCaptivating\, candid\, and full of heart\, the film follows four girls ages 5-12 as they navigate the annual whirlwind of selling\, striving\, and succeeding. For these Girl Scouts\, selling cookies isn’t just about Thin Mints and sisterhood – it’s a crash course in commercialism. Behind the smiles lie real pressure: long hours\, ambitious goals\, and weighty expectations. \nWith humor\, warmth\, and a keen eye for small moments revealing big truths\, Cookie Queens shows how growing up is shaped by tensions between community and capitalism. Two screenings: 2pm & 5pm

SUMMARY:"Sherman's March" screening at Jengo's Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Armed with a 16mm camera and a grant to make a documentary about the lingering aftermath of William Tecumseh Sherman’s 1864 march to the sea\, Ross McElwee gets sidetracked. After his girlfriend breaks up with him\, Ross shifts his attention from the historical to the personal\, to the battlefield of modern love\, and embarks on a sociological chronicle that documents the courting rites and rituals of the New South. \nA generous and humanistic portrait of several remarkable women that Ross meets along the way\, Sherman’s March sketches it’s characters with novelistic sensitivity: Pat\, an aspiring actress with a yen for Burt Reynolds; Claudia\, a roller-skating interior designer; Jackie\, the activist whose anti-nuclear advocacy dovetails with Ross’s deepest fears; and above all\, Charleen Swansea\, Ross’s mentor and a one-woman Greek chorus of unsolicited romantic counsel.

SUMMARY:"Always Looking: Titus Brooks Heagins"- screening at Jengo's Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Always Looking explores the work of photographer Titus Brooks Heagins and the challenging questions his photos pose about the systemic neglect of society’s most vulnerable communities of color. Humanizing yet confrontational\, Titus’ photographs document the overlooked: people who\, through some intersection of poverty\, race or gender/sexual identity\, exist as outsiders. \nGrab a drink at the Jengo’s bar at 6:30 PM before the film starts. This is a co-partnership screening with the Cameron Art Museum.
